About us

About us

We at Selwyn Care have one clear goal: to deliver the very best care for adults with autistic spectrum disorder, and we are proud to be recognised as an accredited provider with the National Autistic Society. Achieving that means adapting our service to the needs of every individual, because only then can we fully support people to live as independently as their disability will allow.

We’re also committed to building the strongest family connections that we possibly can. This is a vital part of our overall commitment; helping family members to understand more about autism and develop that all-important relationship with their loved one.

We offer outstanding residential accommodation that combines modern state-of-the-art facilities with a beautiful outdoor environment. One of the finest properties in Gloucester, Matson House, has been tastefully renovated to preserve the historic importance of its Grade II listed status. In the grounds of Matson House is Edward House, an outstanding single-storey, purpose-built facility opened in September 2002. Jasper Lodge is a 2007 conversion of a historic coach-house on the Matson House site. It provides six one-bedded properties and three self-contained flats and is designed for clients who may not be suited to our multi-occupancy homes.

Residential care is just one part of our service though. We also offer a tailored day care programme that encompasses a wide variety of stimulating and enjoyable activities all on-site.

Do take the time to look around our site and discover the unique service that Selwyn Care can offer to adults with autism. A service that we feel can be best summed up by the words support, involvement and development.

Selwyn Care is accredited to the National Autistic Society.

Family connections

We believe that the family is a vital part of the care team. Of course, all family members are welcome to visit our services at any time, and close family members are encouraged to become actively involved in planning programmes of care.

It’s also important that families are empowered to play an active role in the care process. We offer regular invites to family for a visit to our services and our team, and we offer support to be involved in developing methods of teaching and care.

We are all working together to achieve our shared objective: to make sure that each individual we support enjoys every possible opportunity to learn, develop and grow as a person.

Our personal care planning approach gives complete continuity and consistency of approach for each client. Everyone we care for has an individual programme of support, with daily programmes designed to promote learning and independence delivered in a comfortable, predictable and structured environment.

Meet the team

The Selwyn Care team

Selwyn Care’s management team brings extensive experience of caring for people with autism. Head of Care Sally Harvey has been part of Selwyn Care services for more than eight years and she is passionate in ensuring that Selwyn Care achieves the highest standards of care. We do recognise that providing the best service we can is in the hands of our valued team of staff, which is why we have rigid vetting procedures and offer outstanding training opportunities.

The National Autistic Society’s accreditation team gives regular training, support and guidance, and all staff undergo courses which provide strategies for dealing with challenging behaviour in a non-confrontational manner. Our in-house training department has an autism champion, who provides our team with autism awareness and stage 1 and 2 autism training, and all staff are trained to a high standard having either completed or are working towards the QCF (Qualifications and Credit Framework) diploma level 2 or 3.

Education

Education – supporting people to achieve their full potential

Ensuring that every one of our clients enjoys excellent educational opportunities is a key priority. But even the word “education” is misleading. It’s not just about academic learning. It’s about providing both residents and day care clients with consistent opportunities for development each day. From one-to-one coaching and group sessions at our centres, to activities in the community, everything is planned and structured to help our clients live the most fulfilling and rewarding lives possible.
