Residential care

Matson House has played its part in some of the most significant events in British history. Charles the First stayed in the house and planned the siege of Gloucester from within its walls. To this day, one of the bedrooms is known as the King's Room in memory of his stay.

Now fully renovated and designed for the needs of adults with autism, Matson House offers up-to-date facilities within a homely and comfortable environment. Accommodation stretches across three floors known as George House and Charles House. Each has its own spacious lounge, kitchen and dining room; and there are 13 bedrooms in total (none of which are shared). Every one of these light and airy rooms gives beautiful views over the picturesque landscaped grounds which surround the property.

Within the grounds of Matson House is Edward House, opened in September 2002. This modern single-storey building offers a similar level of space as the main house and has eight bedrooms – each with a full en-suite bathroom. There is a large lounge area and a spacious kitchen and dining room, plus a garden extending to nearly half-an-acre featuring two secluded courtyard areas. Additionally there are three flats and a self-contained bungalow purpose-built in 2006 which is solely for the use of one service user that offers ground floor accommodation which is suitable for those with limited mobility.

Jasper Lodge was commissioned in 2007 and comprises six spacious single-bedroom properties and three self-contained flats. These have been designed for service users who just cannot settle in a multi-occupancy environment and who need high levels of support. The houses are well-appointed and staffing will reflect the needs of the individuals.

In 2007 the day centre moved into its current home on site which has been designed to provide flexible space and a pleasant environment.

We offer a social aspect about coming to the day centre and our staff are trained and skilled in alternative communication. Our staff approach is a caring, supporting and respectful one.

Our facilities include woodwork, art and crafts, swimming, life skills, Jacuzzi, sensory room, ball pool area, hiking and local walks, IT sessions, gardening and music therapy, movie cub, personal care, and aromatherapy.
